Official state resources

State grant and assistance resources, all in one place

Official websites only, for all 50 states, DC and the territories. Links checked 2026-10-27. AGA is a private service: we don't run these programs, and applying through them is always free.

Quick answer: Most help for individuals comes from state-run benefit programs, not "free grants." Use the USA.gov Benefit Finder, call 211, then apply through the official state links below. Businesses and nonprofits should also check Grants.gov and state economic development agencies.

Questions

Does my state give grants to individuals?

States run many assistance programs for residents, such as food, energy, housing and education aid, usually funded partly by federal programs. They are applied for through your state agencies, not paid out as "free grants." Start with your state section below or the USA.gov Benefit Finder.

Where do I find state grants for small businesses or nonprofits?

Check your state economic development agency and state agency grant pages (linked from each USA.gov state guide), your local SBA resource partners, and Grants.gov for federal funds passed through states.

Are these links official?

Yes. Every link below goes to a .gov or official state website and returned a working page when we checked it on 2026-10-27. Websites change, so tell us if a link breaks.
